How Long Does The Pet Transportation Process To Japan Take?
Although the flights to Japan might only take a number of hours, planning for your pet’s trip can actually take several months to complete. This is because of the very strict pet importation restrictions and scheduling requirements Japan has in place. To avoid disappointment, we recommend contacting us at least one month before you’d like your pet to fly out.

JAPAN REQUIREMENTS
Import Approval is required for pets travelling to Japan. The Approval Notification must be submitted at least 40 days priorto departure and is valid for the specified date of travel only. Application is made to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries.
Dogs
- Microchip
- Export Veterinary Inspection – within 2 days of departure.
- Export Paperwork finalisation – within 2 days of departure.
- If the animal is transshipped through a region other than a designated rabies-free region, a container seal or an annex is required.
Cats
- Microchip
- Export Veterinary Inspection – within 2 days of departure.
- Export Paperwork finalisation – within 2 days of departure.
- If the animal is transshipped through a region other than a designated rabies-free region, a container seal or an annex is required.
Vaccines
- C3 vaccine for dogs – vaccines should be at least 14 days old before export.
- F3 vaccine for cats – vaccines should be at least 14 days old before export.
Permit Requirements
You will need to provide an ORIGINAL or copy of all vaccination records and blood test results as these will need to travel with your pet/s. Please ensure you have these available at the time of collection / drop off. We require all vaccinations to be checked with us prior to the acceptance of your move.
