Career Pathways: A Chat With Our People
Rheannon Clarry – Domestic Sales Team Leader
I’ve been with Dogtainers for over 4 years now and when applying for Dogtainers had never held an office job. I walked into the office on my first day hesitant and walked out questioning to myself if I would be able to do this job. I always push myself to grow and roll with any challenges that I face so I kept turning up every day applying myself. I always had the growing support of every person around me to help me drive myself to success. In the beginning I was nervous to collect a phone call with the unknown of what was on the other end.
The employee culture and environment within the office has allowed me to overcome any duties that came my way that faced extreme challenges. Four years on from my first day I currently am in a position where I manage the whole Domestic department, something I didn’t know at the time of my first day would be such an achievement and still to this day is just a stepping stone of just how far I can go and what I can achieve at Dogtainers. I constantly feel the support from upper management in allowing me to make mistakes, follow my gut, guided support in decision making and never had a time where I’ve felt like if I did make an error, I would be crucified for it.
This is a place where you are guided to learn and the constant challenges on the day to day is what sparks my drive to always do better than the day before.
So, I guess the reason why I like working for Dogtainers is, support networks, culture, daily challenges, and upper management.

Pet Travel Advisor
How long have you worked at Dogtainers?
I have worked for Dogtainers I believe for about a year now and have had a hand in both the domestic side and have also spent time helping organise people importing from the UK.
What typical challenges arise?
My most common challenge is moving the more “restricted” breeds like Snubbed nosed (Boxers, bulldogs, Shih Tsu’s) or American Staffies, as they have more rules to follow and few people are aware of these extra steps to be able to move them successfully and safely.
What do you most look forward to on your shift?
Being able to help move furry family members, especially when it’s a more unique pet or situation. Zoo moves, rescues or even pets that are blind or deaf; as an owner of a deaf puppy, being there to help ease people’s concerns is the best part. That and seeing all the photos of cute pets of course.
Pet Chauffeur
What typical challenges arise?
Nervous pets who aren’t happy to be crated, however, with help from colleagues and encouragement with food, this is managed well. Manual handling, for example, large dogs where multiple people are required to lift crates. Heatwaves and storms call for extra communications due to airport shutdowns, rescheduled flights and wind and rain.
What do you most look forward to on your shift?
Reuniting pets with their families or a new pet with a family. Especially during covid, reuniting with their owners who haven’t seen them in months or years.
What are the perks for you?
Spending time with lovely pets, giving them lots of pats and attention.

Why You Should Choose Dogtainers
There are four different categories recognised by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. The categories are based on the rabies risks of animals coming from these countries. Cats and dogs from approved countries are allowed to enter, provided all the veterinary requirements are met.
We are Australia’s largest owner-operated pet transport network and the only pet travel company to have our own offices and staff located in every state in Australia, including the Northern Territory.
Dogtainers has been operating for 50 years, and we import thousands of pets into Australia every year.
We’re an official RSPCA partner and a member of IPATA.
Most importantly, we’re pet lovers just like you! We understand that pets are family, and they deserve to be treated like it.
