The Pet Transport Process
Although there’s a lot to learn about the process of flying a pet outside of the flight itself, we’ve done our best to summarise what the pet transport process is like on travel day.
Lodgement
Once the pet has been lodged in the airport freight area, airline staff place the pet in a special waiting area until it’s time to board.
Airline staff monitor the pet’s well-being, ensuring its crate is free from hazards and there is plenty of water.
In Transit
Pets are the last to board the aircraft to minimise their stress and exposure to elements on the tarmac. They remain in their special waiting area until the flight crew is ready to load them.
Pets are secured safely into position in the temperature-controlled pressurised pet area. Temperature and noise experienced by your pets are similar to what passengers experience in the cabin. Lighting is switched off as this will encourage the pets to sleep.
Arrival
Upon arrival, pets are first off the plane and are taken to the airline freight area.
If the pet is transiting a particular airport on route to their final destination, airline staff will prepare them for their next flight.
Pet Travel Crate Requirements for Flights
When selecting a crate, opt for a crate that provides enough room for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. However, avoid going too large, as excessive space can lead to instability during turbulence. We recommend measuring your pet to ensure you select the perfect crate size.
